UCLPartners and the Greater London Authority are hosting a meeting for leaders and future leaders of London’s health and social care system on Wednesday 29th February 2012. This conference builds on two oversubscribed events in 2011, with the same faculty, which were aimed at a national audience.

Who should come? 

Leaders and future leaders, both clinical and managerial, from across London’s health and social care system. All professions; all sectors and specialties, at any career stage.

The programme

We will introduce the concept of value – pairing quality, expressed as useful outcomes, to the cost of delivering care – and discuss what it takes to apply it successfully in practice. We focus in particular on the vital role clinical and other leaders play to deliver progressive improvements in value given London’s specific challenges and opportunities.

Speakers bring perspectives both international and local. Prof. Michael Porter is the author of “Redefining Healthcare”, a seminal work describing the purpose and implementation of value in care delivery: Michael will introduce the concept of value, illustrated with international examples from community and hospital care. Prof Tom Lee, a practicing clinician as well as academic and CEO, will discuss how the Partners’ health system in Boston (which includes Mass General and Brigham and Womens’ hospitals) is now applying value in practice, going beyond the walls of individual organisations to focus on pathways of care. Dr Charlie Davie will then describe how NHS London’s stroke improvement work demonstrates the principles of value in action in the NHS, and how UCLPartners is now extending the London-wide work.  The morning will close with a Q&A session.

This event is organised on a not-for-profit basis. There is a nominal charge for participants of £50 to cover costs. Places are limited and will be allocated strictly first-come-first-served. We anticipate a waiting-list.
